Astronomy

I can identify key technological advancements that helped in making our knowledge of space expand.  My research will show the past, but I will also predict what future advancements may stretch our limits even more.

Essay

Technology is a prodigious advancement that has helped all kinds of people in both the past and the present.  In the astronomy world, new advanced technology has become a key factor to astronomers and astronauts, for it has helped them discover new ideas, theories, and even other astronomical objects in space.  Although the technology humans already have may seem like a tremendous amount and extent of technology, there will definitely be more advanced kinds in the hopefully near future.

The telescope is a very unique astronomical instrument invented by Hans Lippershey in 1608.  Many different types of telescopes have been created, such as optical, radio, x-ray, gamma ray, and many other telescope varieties.  With these great technology advancements, humans are able to discover objects unknown to humanity before their invention.  For example, the fact that we know there are eight planets are only known because of optical telescopes.  In addition, the identification of the Andromeda Galaxy was only because of telescopes.  Although we had discovered a smudge in the sky with the naked eye, we could not prove it was a galaxy without the use of telescopes.

Telescopes are vital instruments to past and present astronomers, but what could we determine about the planet Mars without the Mars Exploration Rover?  Being so technologically advanced, this robot can roam the entire land of Mars, looking for useful evidence of soil and possible life forms.  This incredible invention has a camera so that engineers and other important workers can visualize what is seen by this automated robot, and discover new ideas never before known or thought of.  With grooved wheels, this vehicle can surface any terrain, allowing it to discover all varieties of land.  Additionally, the innovation of placing solar panels on both Mars Exploration Rovers Spirit and Opportunity is very intelligent, for Mars is very close to the Sun, only one planet behind Earth.  Overall, these machines are vital to the expansion of humanity’s knowledge of the rest of our solar system.

It is a great invention to send robots into space and on other planets, but life would be a lot more interesting if humans themselves could travel into these foreign lands.  Apollo 11 has apparently already landed on the moon in previous years, and that excited people to a great extent.  Although there have been rumors about the falsity of this event, it still remains an occurred event that utilized our advancement in technology.  Space shuttles are great inventions that help us expand our knowledge of space.  However, there is still a tremendous amount of space for improvement on these machines, for we have not yet been successful on creating them to move us on other planets.  I believe that such equipment could be created in the distant future, but will definitely require very advanced technology that has not yet been discovered.

Technology that has existed in the past and the present are extremely helpful, except we still have thoughts and ideas of greater innovations in technology.  Such improvements include satellites that use solar power to power both themselves and several things on Earth.  In addition, creating stations in space that allow us to manufacture in space would greatly increase the amount of materials we can acquire, for there are many minerals in space that we are unfamiliar with due to our lack of technology.  So many ideas are floating around that will eventually be discovered.  Even simpler designs like non-rocket space launches would be very helpful to astronauts, for it would save energy and gas if it were to take off using a runway instead of a launch pad.  By employing these innovations, astronomers, astronauts, and scientists would all have easier lives and would create a more productive world on Earth.

Advancements in technology have assisted people greatly in the past and the present, and scientists plan on continuing this mindset.  In many years people will look back to this era, and laugh at the lack of technology used by us humans.  The future will be flourished with new technology, and will have explored many new locations we currently are unfamiliar with.  However, it would be ignorant of one to say that the current technology is poor, for there have been so many discoveries that couldn’t be done without the technology present now.  The level of technology in the past and present has been tremendously supportive, and will grow continuously in the future.

I can effectively explain the different theories of the universe.  I will discuss theories starting from Ancient Greece through the theories discussed in present day.  I will analyze all theories and make a judgment based on my research on which is most valid.

Essay

The universe in many minds is an eternal expansion of space that has no limit.  However, what good is it to know it is infinite or finite if we don’t even know how it was created?  Many scientists have idealized different theories of how the universe could have been created, all of which seem slightly plausible and implausible at the same time.  Some being more prominent than others, many remain in the public that are viewed, modified, and doubted every day.  However, the one idea that remains the most believed of them all is what most Christians believe as when God created the universe.  Although only one can truly be genuine, there remain many various theories among our society.

Although science seems to encompass many of the universe’s mysteries, religion takes the number one spot in its creation.  According to Christianity, the universe was created by the theoretical hands of God, who individually pieced each atom together that form to today’s forms on Earth as well as in space.  This notion is left fairly vague, for not many details are explained.  Often times people wonder what proof is supporting this, and the one true piece of information humanity can grasp is the Holy Bible.  Personally, I believe that this was the creation of the universe over any of the other theories.  Elucidated in the book of Genesis, some minute elements are presented about the universe’s creation and other ideas along with it.  However, because this is the most publicly believed theory of the creation of the universe, it does not mean that it must be the only true theory of the universe’s creation.

Among all scientific theories, the Big Bang Theory is by far the most prominent theory of the creation of the universe.  Proposed by Georges Lemaître, this theory is the most inclusive and precise explanation supported by scientific evidence and observations.  According to this theory, the universe first began as an extremely hot and dense condition that subsequently expanded rapidly.  However, the universe cooled since then, yet is still slowly expanding inch by inch.  By doing many computations, recent calculations have inferred that the original state of the universe began about 13.7 billion years ago.  This is referred to as the time of the Big Bang’s occurrence.  Being such a famous theory, this idea must have a lot of information and evidence to back it up, or else no one will ever believe in this theory ever.  However, one of the main reasons that kept the Big Bang Theory alive is when Albert Einstein created the theory of general relativity.  Before this time, believers of this theory were scarce, for little information and proof could be presented to society.  A very complex yet ideal theory it is, a very much believed theory nowadays.
The Big Bang Theory is a probable theory of the universe, yet there is another prominent theory by the name of the String Theory.  The String Theory is a theory that everything in the universe is made up of strings.  Scientists picture electrons plainly as a point with absolutely no internal structure.  However, according to some theorists, these leptons are not only dots, but looped strings that can do much more than move, as electrons are believed to do.  This seemingly queer theory has actually emerged as one of the most promising candidates for a microscopic theory in the last decade.  Although this theory may be supposed as a correct and reliable theory, it is still under development, for scientists still are researching for more facts to back up this astounding theory.
The Big Crunch Theory is a possible scenario for the ultimate fate of the universe.  The story behind this theory is that if space will continue to expand at its general rate, eventually its expansion will reverse, causing the universe to re-collapse.  However, once the universe does subside, theorists project the universe to end up as matter of a black hole.  According to the Big Bang Theory, the universe expanded from an extremely dense and hot state and continues to expand today.  If this is true, the Big Crunch Theory claims that eventually the universe will have no ability to continue its expansion, and will result in a major contraction for a long period of time.  Over this time period, a black hole will form from the energy of these galaxies and other astronomical objects in the universe.  By then, it is said that the entire universe will be consisted of only that black hole.
As well as the Big Crunch, the Big Freeze is a theory about the ultimate fate of the universe.  This one, however, claims that the universe will eventually reach absolute zero, a temperature at which everything freezes and becomes destroyed.  However, some scientists believe that this could only occur in a flat or hyperbolic geometry.  On the other hand, some cosmologists believe that it could additionally occur in a closed universe.  Despite the debates between the different possibilities of this theory, it remains the most commonly accepted theory within the scientific community.
The universe is a large area of space that is unfathomable to the human mind.  However, it becomes even more difficult to understand how this colossal space was created.  The most common theory, the theory that God created everything, is the one that I believe as well.  Among all the theories in the universe, only one theory could possibly be genuinely true unless the real production was a combination of several theories.  Here on Earth, many humans idealize different theories and thoughts about the universe’s creation, and several people will believe different theories of their preference.  Although there remain various theories of the universe, God knows there is only one true way of creation.
